Common questions
How is my percentile calculated?
Your number is placed on the cohort's percentile band (10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentiles) by interpolation, with a log-normal tail above the 90th percentile so very high values still get a meaningful rank. It is the same calculation the Keeping Up app uses.
Where does the comparison data come from?
Cohort distributions are modeled from federal survey microdata — the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, the BLS Consumer Expenditure Survey, Census ACS and BLS wage data — and blend toward anonymized, aggregated Keeping Up member data as each cohort grows.
Is anything I type stored?
No. Your figures stay in your browser. The only request sent is for the comparison group (age, metro, industry). If you copy a results link, the numbers are in that link — share it only if you want to.
