Why is my Plaid connection broken? How do I reconnect?

Plaid connections drop ~every 90 days when banks rotate security tokens. Five-step reconnection procedure plus when to escalate to support.

Plaid connections occasionally drop for predictable reasons:

  • Your bank rotated its security tokens (~every 90 days at most banks). You'll see a yellow warning on the affected account.
  • Your bank requires re-authentication after a password change or security event on your bank's side.
  • Your bank is experiencing temporary maintenance — usually resolves within hours.

To reconnect:

  1. Open Keeping Up → Settings → Connections
  2. Find the account with the yellow warning indicator
  3. Tap Reconnect — Keeping Up relaunches Plaid Link with your existing institution pre-selected
  4. Enter your bank credentials again; Plaid refreshes the connection
  5. Sync resumes automatically within 60 seconds

Some institutions require periodic reconnection regardless of activity (about every 90 days for some banks; 1-2 times/year for most). This is a bank-side policy that Plaid passes through. If you're seeing reconnection prompts more often than every 30 days, please contact support@keepingup.com — we can investigate.
